What We Believe

Our founder Tom Scott’s mantra was simple: “People are important.” This notion shapes the way we treat our customers, our employees and our communities.

We’re a family-run business and customer satisfaction is our north star — from sales and rentals to service and long-term support.

Our Story

Scott Truck and Tractor opened its doors in 1939 with just 10 employees, including founder Tom Scott and his wife, Mayme. But the story of Scott Equipment began long before that.

As the oldest of five children, Tom understood the value of hard work from an early age. Despite limited means, he was the only sibling to complete college, working multiple jobs to afford his education. After graduation, he started his career at International Harvester, where he met Mayme, his future wife and business partner.

Together, Tom and Mayme built Scott Truck and Tractor on determination, service, and lasting relationships. In the early days, it wasn’t unusual for a customer to trade a mule for a piece of farm equipment. But once World War II created steel shortages, the company had to get creative to keep servicing its customers.

Scott has always been a family business. Tom and Mayme, along with their kids Betty and Tom Jr., worked side by side to grow the company. Tom believed in taking chances on people, especially folks eager to work hard and learn. He recognized that people were at the heart of the business and often shared his appreciation with employees and customers.

In 2025, The LANCO Group of Companies purchased Scott Equipment.  The Lanco business model — Great customer service and a better way to serve customers – was so in sync with the Scott Equipment vision, it was a great match.

Tom Scott’s guiding principle, “People are Important,” remains at the core of everything we do. Supporting our employees and focusing on our customers is the foundation of our growth and innovation.
